The actual mat is much, much darker than the picture suggests. It also looks much better than the picture. Its a glossy, deep cherry color. I'm using it on deep pile carpet, and after 7 months of my 240 pounds rolling around on it, the mat is still in perfect condition. A little pricey for a chair mat, but worth every penny.
**note - I have the version without the lip. For some reason my old order pulled up the lip-ed version.
